Want To Learn Music Or Teach Music?
The Institute of Registered Music Teachers of New Zealand
Welcome to LearnMusicNZ, the website of the New Zealand Institute of Registered Music Teachers (IRMTNZ). Whether you are looking for a music teacher, or want to become a registered music teacher, or are a music teacher wishing to connect with others, or simply find out what we do, this is the place to be.
Music is a fundamental part of most people’s lives. We enjoy listening to it. And anyone can learn to make music, which has its own special rewards. As music teachers, we want to encourage people to make music, and to do it well. Our registered music teachers are qualified personally and professionally.
We are a professional organisation which supports music teachers by providing regular professional development opportunities and upholding standards of excellence in the teaching of the art of music.
The IRMTNZ holds annual national conferences which provide outstanding professional advice, collegial support and inspiration. Due to Covid-19 we have had to postpone the 2021 Conference to January 2022. However, we will still hold an online AGM via Zoom on 29 January 2021.
The 2020 Conference: Bridging Cultures – Beethoven 250 and Beyond 16-19 January 2020 at King’s College in Auckland was a fantastic opportunity for members from all over New Zealand to undertake professional development and network with their peers, as well as enjoy amazing musical performances and hear insights by Stephen De Pledge and the New Zealand String Quartet. The Judith Clark Memorial Address was given by Peter Walls and the Keynote Address by William Dart. Members are able to access CPD Online videos of some of these insights.
