Auckland Music Therapy Conference - September. Call for papers.
Music Therapy New Zealand (MThNZ) is excited to be hosting our 2012 Conference in Auckland, New Zealand on 22-23 September. The theme for Conference is “Music and the Brain: Developing Pathways”. The Keynote address will be given by Dr. Wendy Magee, Associate Professor, Department of Music Education and Therapy, Temple University, Philadelphia, USA. Nationwide Lexus Song Quest 2012 entries now open.
The New Zealand International Arts Festival is delighted to call for entries to the 2012 Lexus Song Quest. We are proud today to see former Lexus Song Quest entrants gracing stages across the world. The 2012 New Zealand International Arts Festival will feature no less than three previous winners: Martin Snell, Philip Rhodes and Jonathan Lemalu.

Music Preparation: Entrants must prepare a programme of 6 items for their initial audition. This must include: two operatic arias; one aria from an oratorio, mass or cantata; one German Lied, French Melodie or European Art Song in a language other than English; and two items of their own choice. Entrants programmes must include three languages, one being English. One aria may be up to seven minutes in length. All other items must not exceed five minutes each. Those unable to get to the audition or based overseas may submit a recorded programme.

Christchurch - Banks Peninsula. Little River Music Festival
Little River Music Festival, Waitangi Weekend 3 – 6 February.
Set in the rural property “La Casa Bella” amongst 100 year old walnut trees, rolling hill side and the Okana stream in Cooptown, Little River on the Banks Peninsula. For more information, see the Little River site.

Hastings Alfresco music and food
Te Awanga Estate Sunday Sessions, 15 January – 15 April, Te Awanga Estate, Hastings. Sunday sessions kick off at midday, music starts at 1pm. $5 adults, children under 13 free.

New Plymouth WOMAD: the World’s Festival 16-18 March.
WOMAD is a 3 day festival featuring music, art and dance from around the world. It happens in many countries around the world and in NZ, it takes place at the TSB Bowl of Brooklands in New Plymouth. Acts announced for this year include Korean traditional musicians, a Brazilian accordion virtuoso duo, the “Shogun Orchestra” and a traditional Javanese shadow puppet show. Recent graduates of university music performance degrees or diplomas in performance and/or teaching are encouraged to apply to the IRMTNZ for the status of Student Graduate.

Nationwide Listen to interview with Adrian Mann, "Piano man"
He has moved his piano to the Otago Settlers museum for 3 weeks. The link is to a Radio NZ page which has a brief summary, and you can link there to a 10 minute interview broadcast 18 November. Click on "Piano Man" then opt to play on Windows or whatever, or download the mp3. Among other snippets, Adrian points out the piano is easier to move as you use a tractor.
